TOPIC: Connecting to Internet with Nook Color

Connecting to Internet with Nook Color 3 Years, 9 Months ago Karma: 0
I have secured wi-fi at home wherein I have a laptop, desktop, Ipad, internet radio, Nook and now a Nook Color. I have the Windows Vista operating system and a Netgear Router. Prior to the purchase of my Nook Color, everything connected with no issues, including my Nook. Now, I am having problems connecting the Nook Color to my secured wi-fi system. I have been on the phone with Clear for hours; yet my connection is excellent. I of course called B&N and actually took the Nook Color back and got a replacement...I was told that Nook Color was having 'server issues'. I have been on the phone with Netgear literally up to 5 hours as they get it working and then it stops the next day.
Is anyone else having these issues? Any advice? I am getting ready to call Netgear once again to allow them to take control of my laptop so they can re-set the router, create yet another SSID and pass phrase. BTW, the Nook Color works perfectly at my home on a non-secured wi-fi...go figure.

Sheila:

I have similar issues with new equipment when connecting to my WIFI (secured) at home. Then I remembered that I use a MAC address filter on my router as an extra bit of security. If I don't load the MAC address of the equipment I want to connect via WIFI, it won't work. Make sure the MAC address of the Nook is loaded in your router settings if you use the MAC address filtering.

Hope that helps.

I am also having trouble connecting when not at home. Was at Starbucks today and after several attempts finally got connected; after about 5 minutes it booted me off and I couldn't get connected. It kept telling me to make sure my Wi-Fi setting was on - which it was - but it wouldn't connect. Two of my friend who were with got their Kindle's connected and bought books before I was even connected. If it's going to be this difficult to connect to other network (not at my house), then I'll take it back.

Have the same issues on a secure home and work network. If I take the security off either wep or wpa it will connect. If I have to enter code or key it keeps trying to connect at times will say connected but no internet. I think that I will just have to change the security settings on the router anytime I want the nook color to download. Otherwise it won't connect

what i could advice you is that you need to put the mac address on the router so that your router will be able to access it without a problem advice the netgear team to help you out in the process of placing in the mac address in your net gear router.
