Is it "gel" like? Or is it just a decal? How "thick" is it - can you tell it is there and adds some bulk?

I guess I assumed they were just like the skins offered at decalgirl. I don't feel any "give" when pushing down on it so I'd say it's just a vinyl decal with 3M channel adhesive (very thin, no bulk). Take a look at the first pic I posted, lower left corner of the nook. You can actually see the diamond pattern of the channeled adhesive through the vinyl so it's very thin.
It wouldn't offer *any* drop protection due to this. It's primarily a vanity accessory

Bah, I've convinced myself it's saving my nook from scuffs and scratches, so it's useful too!

Sorry to hear that.
Which design do you have? Is it from Decalgirl?
