To All,

While we all wait for January and the firmware update and apps store, here are a few Nook Color “accessorizing” tips.

1. On the B&N Nook Color web site, go to “Accessories” and consider the “Anti-Glare Screen Film Kit (two sheets included) for $16.95. I installed this early on and it really helps reduce glare along with making screen cleaning quite simple. I wish they could make a truly “non-reflective” one.

I also purchased the blue Samuel Paterson quote cover from B&N. Its faux leather outer surface cleans easily.

2. This is a “must”… get yourself a stylus designed for capacitive screens. They work and really cut down on smearing up the screen along with clicking on browser links for those of us with larger fingertips.

Best Buy has the “Targus Stylus for Apple iPad” (Model AMM01US/SKU 1151337) for $17.99.

You can also go to and type in “nook color” (two words) in the search box. This will take you to their Nook Color Accessories page which has three different types of styli. They also offer an in-ear set of earphones and a triple use converter/charger among other items.

I got the black Targus from BB and a red stylus ($15.00) from Boxwave. Their design is essentially identical and they really work. I can’t understand why B&N doesn’t have at least one stylus offering on its accessories page.

I didn’t want to make any slices on the inside of the cover for the stylus and storing it in one of the cover pockets would have allowed it to contact/scratch the screen. I cut two thin strips of Velcro and attached one to the stylus opposite its pocket clip. I attached the other strip to the midpoint of the cover’s center crease or fold and the stylus stays safely in place and is easily accessible for instant use.

3. The following is the URL for a free version of the “Any Video Converter” which will let you convert (among other things) your SD or BD video files to mp4. The mp4 can then be played back on the NC!

4. For storage expansion I opted for an eight Gig mini sd card that was on sale at BB for less than $25.00. It installed easily (even with my large fingers) and it is simple to switch between the on board storage and this card. It is a standard speed (class 2) card, not a class 4 or 6. Video playback of the converted mp4 file played smoothly. I considered the 16 Gig card but the price at both BB and Amazon simply wasn’t worth the current little use I would get out of it.

5. Just added this from another post topic in this header. They have skin coverings (and matching wallpaper) for the Nook Color also:

I am hoping that B&N can make a big splash at the Las Vegas CES in early January regarding the firmware update and apps store!

That’s all for now and January can’t get here soon enough.

I'm using my regular nook case (Sleeve). Works GREAT and happy to not buy another.

Though the decal girl things were cool on the nook, I like the way the NC looks on it's own.
