I don't know that I want to mess around with the nook...if so many people are doing this and it can be done you would think that B&N would add these apps to the Nook themselves. I am worried as I just bought it, and I think it will nullify my warrenty if I do that...right now I can't see any reason to hack into it. I like the ebooks I can get on B&N, and I can download library ebooks. The only thing I dislike about it (the nook) is that I can't download wma audiobooks onto it. Or I haven't figured out how to do it anyway....

Linda, you can convert wma files to mp3 and then transfer them to the nook. I've gotten it to work then way but it really eats up the battery life.
I'm with you..I'm not messing with the rooting thing either. Too much risk involved for something I paid $300 for. I'm not rich enough to just go out and buy another!

I'm wondering. What kind of operating system did you use to root your Nook? Those directions aren't entirely clear to me on the NookDev page on softrooting. I can download from the multiupload site but the download reads as only a dAt file. what does that mean and is that the correct file to install on the Nook in order to bring it down to the original version and then root it? I've never done anything like this before. Thansk.

It's really just as easy as the site says. The nookdevs guys did a hell of a job. You download the two files. Side load the downgrade, and let it reboot. Drop the rooted 1.2 version on your SD card and force the update. The nook does the rest.

An FYI, if you do this and want to keep it you'll need to shut off auto updates. The next update is coming soon and will wipe the root access off of your nook and you'd have to re downgrade to do it again.

how do you shut off updates...I assume by turning on the airplane mode?

So the Nook reads the file that I've sideloaded into the Nook folder and puts it into effect once I've rebooted. So far, so good, but what's all this conversation about people holding down the power and side buttons the right amount of time/ Explain, please. Thansk.
