Did you make this? It's looks really neat but afraid to turn over my gmail information to another site. If I go login at gmail will it work automatically if I visit this page?

Hi

Yes I made InkiMail. I bought a Kindle 3 3G in the fall and as much as I like it, I wanted to use my Gmail account with it while I was out and about. Even the m.gmail.com site was awful to use. Was too small and grayscale. I'm a programmer by trade, so I had the bright idea to set up a website and write InkiMail.

Unfortunately, you can't login to Gmail and then go to InkiMail. It needs to set a session cookie that it reads to function. It just passes your password right through to Gmail. It doesn't save it or know anything about it. Its totally hidden in a temporary variable. InkiMail does a client authorization to log you in and the whole conversation is performed with sessions on your reader that get removed when you log out or log back in. So InkiMail has no knowledge of your password, it only knows your Gmail address, but thats out in the open and used by anyone.

I'm getting ready to integrate Google Calendar functionality into it next.

InkiMail might be a little slow at times on an ereader. I'm working on that, but it's a heck of a lot easier to use InkiMail than straight Gmail on an eInk reader

Thanks for asking about it. I have a lot of fun writing and improving it. Give it a try and have fun.

Best regards,

David

An interesting concept, but I'm not sure it works so well on the nook. An opened email looks like unformatted text. The message is there, but all the paragraphs notations are gone. It also doesn't fit within the e-ink screen requiring me to use the touchscreen to move around, which for me is the worst part about using my nook for anything web related. Maybe it looks better on the Kindle?

Thanks for letting me know about the problem. The web browsers don't have the ability to let the calling web server know if its a Nook, Kindle or other. So I'll go at the design this week and see if I can fix these issues.

Best regards
David

It needs to set a session cookie that it reads to function. It just passes your password right through to Pandora Charms. It doesn't save it or know anything about Pandora Bracelets. Its totally hidden in a temporary variable. InkiMail does a client authorization to log you in and the whole conversation is performed with sessions on your reader that get removed when you log out or log back in.
