I was just curious if others on the forum had their own time when the nook helped spark a conversation or meet someone new.

I had one in Target last weekend. I don't even own the nook (yet) as I'm still on the fence comparing devices. So I'm in Target playing at the Sony eReader display, comparing it with the nook's feature set when I hear a whispered voice behind me say, "go with the nook, you'll like it so much better". I turn around and there is a very kind nook owner who was willing to share her experience with the device. I was able to ask a ton of questions and she was so nice to answer them all. Her enthusiasm for her nook was quite contagious

I was at a coffee shop a few days ago and the workers were ecstatic to see a nook not attached to the B&N desk. I let them check it out and got a hefty discount. I think I also just sold 3 nooks as they all seemed decided after checking it out. Maybe B&N should offer some incentive for referrals

I was eating lunch at one of my favorite places in town and one of the waitresses came up and asked me if I liked my nook. She was full of questions and asked if she could hold it. I told her "of course!" and proceeded to demonstrate it to her. She didn't want to disturb my eating so she didn't stay long but after I ate we talked for about ten minutes on the pros and cons of the different devises out there. I'm pretty sure she's going to buy a nook now!

I've shown to to several people at work who were interested in a Kindle. I've explained why I like the nook better. Then today I was at my daughter's dance pre-competition, if anyone has daughters who dance you know how LONG the day is when you do that. We were having a snack in the caf and I was reading. One of the mom's asked if it was a kindle and I told her it was a nook. I showed her the features and explained that kindle is proprietary while the nook can read books purchased many sources (and I think the nook looks a heck of a lot better). She seemed to like it. If I see her reading one in the next few weeks I'll know.

At my university I get many comments ranging from "is that the ipad?" (I work selling the macs), to "is that the kindle?" But I have been surprised by some people knowing exactly what it is. But its fine introducing the nook to other students I go to school with. Many are blown away by the screen. I had one friend think it was a fake screen at first!

I then show them that that is what makes it unique, due to the screen. It has been quite the attention getter for sure.
