TOPIC: Book Recommendations

Book Recommendations 7 Years, 7 Months ago Karma: 2
I don't know about anyone else, but I've always had a rough time with finding book recommendations on the fly. I've hit forum and talked about my latest read and hopes of finding something similar, but that is always hit or miss. I've liked Amazon's system, but when you hit an author that has release several books you tend to get suggestions only from that same author. I think I've found enough (automatic) resources that will help keep me finding the next book to read.

Bookseer
Bookseer looks at Amazon's suggestions and LibraryThing's recommendations. I like how it combines the two systems in a set of fairly easy to explore lists. When I'm looking for a new author to read, I normally start here. If I used LibraryThing (I don't, I use Readernaut because it's on 7 more levels of awesome but light on a recommendation engine.) it might have been easier without Bookseer, but I like what I see.

WhatShouldIReadNext
What Should I Read Next uses a different system for recommendations, and to be honest, it has been hit or miss when it comes to good suggestions. I've also had a difficult time with the website itself going down. It's a decent backup if Bookseer doesn't get me going.

WhichBook
I've had an even more difficult time with WhichBook. WhichBook doesn't recommend based on past reading history, but based on mood, humor, length, etc. I have no idea what I'm looking for when it comes to WhichBook's criteria and so I find it difficult to use. I have also tried to force it to recommend the book that I know I want to read and cannot get it to do that either. You may have better luck.

If you know of more please let me know. I'd love to fill up my queue with some new authors and interesting reads.

I never knew these types of sites existed. I would have just used Amazon. I am always looking for new books to read. Thanks for the info.

Reliable way to Root Nook Simple Touch
I recently dusted off the Nook Simple Touch and decided to try some of the root options, mostly to get the Kindle app working. I was amazed at the volume of YouTube videos and XDA Forum threads as well as root options
