USB Drivers for Nook - downloadable 4 Years ago Karma: 0
I am having the dreaded "USB Device Unknown" on both a Win7 desktop and a Vista laptop computers. I suspect that a formerly used USB device used a USB driver that conflicts with the Nook. In the process it asks to locate the driver.

From where can I down load a copy of the Nook driver?

Thanks.

I could be mistaken but I think the driver is just the standard USB driver. Regardless whenever I get this I delete the device and restart the computer and reconnect the device. I had no special drivers for my mac or PC

Marcus,

Thanks...BUT... been there done that. After the reboot, same story.

One thing that I didn't mention: Windows 7 is 64 bit, but Vista is 32.

Well the typical Windows answer is to do a system restore or roll back the a restore point before the nook was installed.

Did you try the nook on another computer, switch USB cords, and try another port?

This reminds me of why I'm almost 100% Mac at home now... Even as an IT guy I grew tired of Windows not working right. I think most of it is because Microsoft doesn't control the hardware.

FIXED.... new USB cable. I went to B&N and bought a new cable ($15) and all is right with the world. I guess the wires that charge the device were OK but the data wires were bad.

Thanks for the help.

BOB

PS about the mac vs win-tel... I don't want any manufacturer to have as much control as Apple exerts. I would rather fight occasional problems and have control over my computing environment... AND have a market place that decides the best products and allows me to buy what I want ... not from a preselected list. (Sorry, but I have just lost my job over this very topic. The non-computing people thought APPLE was kewl and anyone who differed with them {i.e. those with degrees in CompSci and years of IT experience} was vanquished.)

Cool beans!

Well it's silly stuff many times. Having a mac wouldn't fix the cord!

I'm a 20yr IT guy with a compsci degree but love the macs. I ran ubuntu for years out of disgust with Microsoft and then tried Mac and haven't gone back. The hardware is all intel based stuff that runs Ubuntu, Mac, or Windows. I switched away from Microsoft dev tools same reason, they were control freaks and everything was a total lock-in. That's changed a lot though.
