Just got the Nook...got a couple questions. 4 Years, 7 Months ago Karma: 0
Just got the Nook opened up and finally out of that packaging...got two things I'm wondering about:

1. Does the Nook have to be on just to charge? - Instructions say to turn it on before charging, and the charge light goes off the moment its powered off? So I'm guessing yes, but I want to be sure.

2. Does the screen ever really go off? - RIght out the package, it had the "N" on the screen, and saying to fully charge before first use. Is that the "off" screen, or will it ever turn off...off....like screen completely blank? Just wondering.

Thx in advance for any answers

Generally you put the nook in sleep mode by tapping the off button. By default it shows famous authors in sleep mode. If the nook is on the charge light should be on until it is fully charged.

The 'n' is typically the screen you get by default for you "wallpaper" which displays when nothing else is on the eink screen. The nook screen is never blank unless you power it down, which you should never need to do that.

Congrats on the purchase.

Kendra,

Quick note on charging. If your nook goes completely dead it will obviously be in the "off" state. Once you plug the charger into your nook, it will power itself up automatically. I have found that sometimes the amber light does not come on for 5-10 minutes. Not sure why but I'm thinking there is something wrong with the power management system. Hopefully the next firmware upgrade will take care of these issues. What you don't want to do is turn your nook off while it is charging. If you do this your nook will stop charging. Like other people have said, just let your nook go to sleep. Congrats on your new nook and happy reading...

Kendra and Lance (but first Kendra)

Yes, the nook has to be on to charge and yes the display on the screen will go blank (a white screen) if you turn the device off. Sometimes, if the device locks up the eink display will stay on the screen (kind of like an etch-a-sketch before you shake it.) Even though you see this display, the battery may be dead depending on the amount of time the nook has been frozen. At this point you would just do a hard reset and then charge.
