How to get the music to play on my nook? 4 Years, 3 Months ago Karma: 0
OK... Just downloaded and updated my nook with the 1.3.0 software version. I like the looks of all the new stuff; but now when I go to my music and select a song and push "play" nothing happens!... None of the songs play! All of the other audio function buttons work -- (forward, back, sound level, shuffle, and playlist).

I do have a screen-saver film over the upper and lower screens; but this doesn't prevent any of my other functions from working.

Anyone out there have any ideas why the play button won't respond, and what I can do about it?....

Thanks!

Why do you think it isn't playing? Is it because you don't see the progress bar on the song more or because you can't hear it? Have you tried with and without headphones? If so, can you see the song position advancing? Do you have the volume turned up?

Sorry for all the Q's

The "progress" bar does not move, and the volume is turned all the way up. Can hear nothing with or without headphones..

I can manipulate the volume control, the "forward" and "back" selectors, and look at the playlist. Like I said; everything functions; except for getting a response from touching the "play" button!

Wierd, Huh?..

Sounds like the format of your music to me. AFAIK the nook still only supports MP3, not WMA or other windows/mac formats. For many that means you'll have to export from the tool you use to MP3. Check the filetypes and maybe just output one music file you are sure is MP3.

Sorry to sound so stupid; but what does "AFAIK" mean? If I loaded my music directly from the CD's into iTunes on my computer, what format are they in?. THat is where I tranferred the music from. How can I tell if the music is in mp3 format?. If they are not, is there a way to transform them into mp3 format? As you can see, you are dealing with a neo-phyte here who desperatly WANTS to understand; but is computer-challenged...... Any help would be appreciated.....

AFAIK = As Far As I Know
iTunes allows you to specify the format of music files generated when you import (rip) your music from CD. They are not MP3 by default, look in iTunes settings. MP3 files will have a .mp3 extension on each of the filenames. You could setup iTunes to rip into mp3 format and then just re-rip (import) or there might be some software to do the conversion for you outside of iTunes. Maybe someone on the list could recommend something?
