Hi Kevin. no sd card installed. For now, i've left the batteries off thinking the screen will clear out when the internal battery dies out. it's been three days now and the start-up screen is still there. any suggestions?

Sorry... I've been away. You could remove the battery and then put it back in. you may want to hit the power button while it is out to remove and cap charge. Prob not important though.

didn't work for me. here's what happened:

first off, when I plugged in the nook AFTER first removing the battery, it DID NOT reboot. just stuck there.
when I plugged in the battery while the USB was connected, that's when it rebooted, but it didn't fix the screen.

I have been able to get some functionality of the screen by cleaning the sides, but its not on the complete screen and also not accurate wherever it does recognize the touch. any ideas about that?

This really isn't a "frozen Nook screen". It sounds like a nook color with a touch screen that isn't working right. I have very limited info on that problem but I will help search. Cleaning helped but still not working correctly... Does it have a screen protector on the screen? I did not find anything here on this problem.
