Today I received an e-mail back from B&N technical support regarding my inability to access the More In Store features during my recent trips to the local store. The e-mail advised me that due to the nature of my issue I was to call 1-800-THE-BOOK and ask for digital support. Great...going nowhere fast.

I was home on my lunch hour and dialed up the number. The call was answered right away and then I was transferred to digital support...where I waited on hold for 34 minutes before hanging up to head back to work. Once back at work I called again...this time I waited 28 minutes before actually speaking to a rep in their digital support area (all the while listening to recordings referring me to their website - so useful!).

"This is Chris. I CAN help you" was the greeting and it instilled a little hope that there was a solution to be had. Sadly no. I explained that I was able to get on the store wi-fi but no special offers presented themselves. The demo nooks at the kiosk access that content but not my machine. The standard battery of questions ensued...did you turn wi-fi off and back on?, airplane mode?, powered down and back on?, unregister and re-register?....yup, yup, yup, yup. "I'm not sure what the problem could be" was the helpful conclusion.

I asked if the More In Store content had changed since the holidays (that seemed like a logical trouble-shooting spot to me). Chris didn't know so he put me on hold for another 10 minutes while he checked. When he returned he indicated that his "manager" told him that this is a known issue and it will be corrected with a software update sometime this month. He still didn't know if the content had changed since the holidays.

I like my nook but part of the appeal was the interaction at the brick and mortar stores which isn't functioning (at least not for me). So far we are off to a bumpy start.

Bummer. I think B&N rolled this out so fast they are hurting, what compounds it is the product isn't really fully baked. It's really a disaster and hope somebody at B&N is getting whipped with the corporate wet noodle. There should be another update coming soon. Since you have a one year warranty "my advice" is to enjoy reading books until the next update and ignore this issue until then.

It's a real shame all the frustration B&N has created with all this stuff. They should have held off on the rollout to all stores until they were ready to build anticipation instead of foster mass disappointment.

It finally worked! After a month of going to my B&N store with no More in Store features they suddenly showed up yesterday! Yesterday's offer wasn't a cookie but a 10% discount on a CD (I'd rather get the cookie!). There were also pages of special articles from various authors and personalities. Nice to see some of the bugs starting to get worked out (with no OTA update too!)!

That is great news Mark. Will be going to my local B&N on Monday to see if it works for me, haven't been in a couple of weeks. Also hoping for a firmware update on Monday. Lets keep our fingers crossed.

Hey guys,

I was in a B&N store yesterday. My Nook immediately connected, I saw the B&N logo at the top, and I saw the "More in Store" offers including the 10% CD offer. The problem I had was that when I tried to download the "Free" ebook content I kept getting the same error. I could see the list of books and articles available for free, and I could select each to see the summary. When I chose "buy for free" it would ask for confirmation that I wanted to buy, then it would say it was processing my request, only to eventually timeout and say "Network Not Available". Has anyone else had this issue? I was not able to download any of the free content.

The last time I did in store it worked fine. I'd suspect they had wi-fi problems or something. I doubt it was your nook or anything. I haven't tried with 1.2 but will this weekend and report back.
