TOPIC: Locking Up/Won't boot up?

Locking Up/Won't boot up? 5 Years, 3 Months ago Karma: 1
I got my nook yesterday and I've had a little time to play around with it. For some unknown reason, my nook will "lock up" and not turn on. The screensaver just stays on. When I plug my nook into the mini USB connector, nothing happens. The charging light does not turn on and yes I've tried it both connected to my computer and to the AC outlet. The only way I have been able to get it to reboot is to physically take out the battery and then it starts up again.

Not too impressed with this as of yet. I had purchased a Sony eBook reader 2 months ago, I returned it when the nook was announced, so far in light of this issue, I'm not too happy.

1) I think the first thing to try is to reset the device to the factory default through your settings menu. That way you are at a known "good point".
2) Also, you can do a hard reset - hold down the top power button for 15 seconds.
3) If it may not be charging properly remove the battery and reseat it.

If none of that helps you may have a hardware issue. Some people are reporting DOA nooks (normal to have some defective devices still be shipped). I would try calling B&N customer service: 1-800-843-2665

Good Luck!!!

I thought I'd check back in and give everyone an update. Since taking the advice of the admin, I reset my nook to it's default settings after re-seating the battery. It has proven to have no problems since then.

I have enjoyed using it and I plan on keeping it for a long time.

Happened to me the other night. did not respond to reseating the battery. I spoke to B&N. They're sending me a new battery. Apparently they have had some bad ones.

Glad you don't have to wait until Feb for a battery!
