Loading books with Adobe Digital Editions on your nook

We've had a lot of questions on how to load books on the nook from other bookstores. Do you need an Adobe ID first? Can you do it from multiple computers? Should you manually transfer the books to the nook?

I think the ability to load non-B&N content on the nook is the #1 feature for me. ADE is the closest thing to a standard in this world of copy-protection and it seems to give e-reader owners the most flexibility. Using Adobe Digital Editions is the key to using non-B&N purchased content on your nook. It's quite easy to setup and get books on your nook. This video takes you through the configuration, book download, and transferring process.

I've put together a short video that details the exact process to configure ADE and load a book from Overdrive or Kobo onto the nook. I hope you find it useful!

Quoting GaryC:
I renamed that folder to "OLD.adobe-digital-edition" so it would not be recognized by ADE. Then I disconnected my Nook, launched ADE and reconnected my Nook. ADE created a new folder named .adobe-digital-edition that is now recognized by ADE.

This, combined with the video, worked for me! Now I can borrow ebooks from my library. Thank you.

Thanks for all the advice - but I still can't get it to work. The book shows up in my nook library, but when I go to open it, I get the message, "user not activated". I did click, "check new content" in my nook documents before trying to open the book. Any ideas?

Excellent video - we were "saving" the ebooks and dragging them through Explorer. Thank you for the demonstration.

PS If you "aren't activated" make sure you have all email accounts (B&N, Adobe, Library Card, etc) the EXACT same. We ran afoul of that problem.

I followed the instructions and successfully transfered an ebook from ADE to my nook. But, when I try to read the book on my nook, I get the message"User not activated". What do I do now?

Thank You sooooooooo much. I am a new nook user and I just bought an ebook from a bookstore in Scotland (my home country) that is unavailable in the U.S and, thanks to your amazing video walkthrough, am now reading it on my nook within 10 minutes of purchace.
Happy, happy nook owner
