Many people still want to read in darker lighting and for that you will still need a light on your nook. The are not backlit on purpose, it's what gives it that paper-like look. You may find a stand useful if you read while you work at a desk, or in the kitchen.

B&N just might be getting it.
B&N has released an update to the iPhone & iPad eReader. The application name is now "nook" brining the app into the new "nook is a platform" strategy. It seems both Apple platforms
